Mr. Curt Hay has been a member of the PGA since 1980 and has been our Head Professional for the past 26 years.  

He has a small but great Pro Shop, runs an excellent golf program and is an excellent teacher.  He offers individual lessons as well as a variety of clinics and group lesson.  Curt’s Junior Golf Program had grown from a mere 12 young people in 1983 when he started, to close to 65 juniors at the present time.  They range in age from 8 to 18 years old.  One of his former junior golfers won the club championship in 2000 and two have gone on to become golf professionals themselves. 

Curt has played on the Arizona Mini Tour, in 12 Michigan Opens, Won the Michigan PGA Pro-Pro Championship at Oakland Hills in 1983, and has been low Pro in many Pro Am’s over the years. He held the course record at Twin Beach (66) from 1983 to 2002. The current course record is held by Kirk Leonard (65).

Background

Curt started playing golf at the age of 11.  During the next four years he learned how the play the game at Detroit Golf Club where he worked as a caddie.   He received instruction from Walter Burkomo and George Bayer as well as his 5-handicap father, Leo.  Curt was the Captain of his high school golf team during his Junior and Senior year, graduating from St. Mary's of Redford in 1971.

While attending the School of Architecture at Lawrence Tech he was instrumental in organizing the new school golf team.  It was also during this period that he began working at the Franklin Hills Country Club, a stay that lasted 12 years. During that time, he progressed from Pro Shop Assistant, to Caddie Superintendent, to Assistant Professional. During the years he worked as the Assistant Professional he also played on the Arizona Mini-Tour in the winter months.

Family

Curt lives in Walled Lake and has been married for 29 years to Marianne, who is a Veterinarian Technician and manager of the Vet Select Animal Hospital in Novi.  They have three grown children Teresa (25), Greg (23) and Elizabeth (20). All three kids had the experience of working and playing at Twin Beach with Dad while growing up.  Teresa is a graduate of Western Michigan and was married to Patrick Misch in 2007. They reside in Phoenix Arizona part of the year and San Francisco, California during the baseball season.  Patrick is a pitcher for the Giants.  Greg graduated from the University of Toledo. He attended UT on a full athletic scholarship playing for the Rocket football team as a defensive captain. Elizabeth is currently a sophomore at Western Michigan University.
